Player X and Hornby makes tracks for Scalextric mobile game
May 15th - Ambitious mobile entertainment
publisher Player X has acquired the exclusive licence from
Hornby to publish Scalextric mobile games.
The first game will be published early next month and will be
available on all major UK operator networks. The mobile game
stays true to the original game and the simple controls are
replicated for thumbplay on a phone. Scalextric for mobile is
a classic top-down racing game with a unique track editor
featuring five different racing car models.
The game also features up to six separate tracks and
Championship, Quick Race and Ghost Race modes. Gamers can
also upgrade their cars, save their best times and race
against themselves or their friends.
"The advent of the Scalextric mobile phone game in
conjunction with Player X is an exciting partnership and
compliments the Scalextric range perfectly. Over recent years
we have integrated the latest technology into our products
through innovative concepts, such as the multi-car lane
changing Scalextric Digital racing system and the
online-enabled Scalextric SportWorld," said Frank Martin,
Hornby Hobbies CEO.
The news follows Player X's recent acquisition of the
exclusive mobile licence for the forthcoming Universal movie
blockbuster Miami Vice. The company is also the publisher of
the exclusive mobile game of Oscar®-winning film Wallace
& Gromit - Curse of the Were-Rabbit and the company has
signed recent deals with legendary UK games publisher
Codemasters and TV format-owner FremantleMedia.
"We've been publishing mobile games from the very beginning
and I've never seen a game that is more perfect for a mobile
phone. The best mobile games have one-button gameplay and
that's exactly how you play Scalextric," said Tony Pearce,
Player X CEO.
