Planet Moon to develop Sega classic for PSP

Planet Moon Studios has been signed up by SEGA to redevelop a classic series for the PlayStation Portable, although neither company will be drawn on the name.

Best known for PC title Giants: Citizen Kabuto and PC/Xbox action-comedy Armed & Dangerous, Planet Moon announced in 2004 that it was refocusing exclusively on PSP development. Since then the company has been responsible for third-person action title Infected.

Speculation abounds that the SEGA title will be a flight-combat game of some sort, based on job adverts posted on Planet Moon's website, but the publisher had no comment to make this afternoon on suggestions that Panzer Dragoon or Afterburner are in the frame.

Not exactly helping to narrow it down, Planet Moon CEO Bob Stevenson said that SEGA's vast back-catalogue allowed for "unlimited possibilities in revitalising fan-favourites on the PSP".

"Our passion for SEGA's classic brands combined with our extensive background in crafting original games will help us create a compelling new chapter in this fan-favourite franchise," he added.

SEGA plans to reinvigorate more of its classic franchises, the company reiterated, with Totally Games at work on an unannounced title and Secret Level, now-SEGA-owned, working on a PSP version of Golden Axe for release in early 2007.
