Pinch

Multi-touch nanobot puzzler delayed till next month but gets more levels.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Guisborough, North Yorkshire, England – 28th April 2010. Coatsink Software has today announced a hold-up in the release of their new game Pinch. Delays with Apple’s app review process have forced the planned release to be postponed until May. A final release date will be made available once the review process is complete.

However, the number of levels included with the initial release of Pinch has increased from 40 to 48. Trailers and new video previews for Pinch are available at http://www.coatsink.com/pinchvideo, screenshots are available at http://www.coatsink.com/pinchscreens and further details are available at http://www.coatsink.com/pinch.

Pinch - an innovative puzzle game for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Using the multi-touch controls of the iPhone, players will take control of the Norbs; tiny nanobots with the sole purpose of conquering the mazes and puzzles which make up their world. The Norbs can change in size and colour by separating apart and merging with one another. The player achieves this by ‘pinching’ the screen - a crucial maneuver that the game derives its namesake from. Players will be familiar with performing this action in other iPhone applications, such as Google Maps and Safari.

Pinch will be the first game that the two-man partnership of Coatsink has released since the company was formed at the end of 2009. Produced as part of a fellowship with the Institute of Digital Innovation ( http://www.digitalcityfellowships.org), which is based at the University of Teesside (Middlesbrough), the game garnered interest as an inventive concept for the puzzle genre. The fellowships support allowed the partners, Tom Beardsmore and Paul Crabb, to establish their company and focus their efforts on this first project.

The game will feature 48 levels on release, categorised into multiple difficulty sections. These will be complimented with regular updates, new levels and other DLC options.

The project has involved international efforts from the likes of Finnish SFX designer Tapio Liukkonen of Kaamossound ( http://www.kaamossound.com), and the award-winning London-based composer Vincent Webb ( http://www.vincewebb.co.uk), as well as mentoring from various industry veterans, developers and experts.

The planned release price is 99c (59p).
