PhaseSpace Impulse

Motion capture system adopted by 3G Studios for new Wii game.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

San Leandro, Calif. July 28, 2008 - PhaseSpace, the price and performance leader in optical motion capture, announced today that 3G Studios has implemented a large PhaseSpace Impulse motion capture system in its studio in Reno, NV. This marks another win for PhaseSpace continuing to demonstrate why they are at the forefront in motion and performance capture products in the US.

3G Studios is an experienced next-gen development studio currently working on the recently announced Jillian Michael's Fitness Ultimatum 2009 for the Nintendo® Wii™ due out this fall as well as an unannounced next-gen title. 3G Studios made a significant studio investment by purchasing the robust PhaseSpace Impulse System which supportsreal-time previews and features well-defined hand and facial capture. The PhaseSpace system will allow 3G Studios to provide ahigher level of realism and perform complex motions with less time spent on clean-up, allowing the studio to work faster than many of its competitors.

"The visualization demands of next-gen development forced us to make the investment in a large scale PhaseSpace system. It's already had an immediate impact on our current projects," said Ryan Cullins, 3G Studios Art Director. "The PhaseSpace technology presented a powerful value proposition that meshed well with our existing animation pipeline while requiring less data clean up. Some of our needs were impossible for many motion capture solutions, such as the need to operate outdoors on a machine-gun range, but the PhaseSpace system works well in just about any lighting condition."

The PhaseSpace motion capture system uses active LED markers which modulate, producing a unique ID for each marker. At 3 times the speed and 3 times the resolution of other systems, the Impulse system displays motion data in real time and is currently used by NASA, the US Armed Forces and several major research and academic institutions around the country. It is also one third the price of older technologies allowing the tracking system configurations to start below $50.000.
