Penny Arcade touts unique gaming event
"We don't want to be E3"
Organisers of the Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) scheduled to take place later this month have reaffirmed the event's originality, distancing itself from the industry's efforts to bridge the E3 gap.
Rumour and speculation regarding a potential replacement for the Electronic Entertainment Expo have been rife since the ESA announced a change to the format of the industry's annual "mega show."
"PAX has clearly been growing in leaps and bounds," stated Robert Khoo, Penny Arcade's director of business development. "Even before the demise of the 'old' E3, this year's PAX was on track to attract more than 17,000 attendees with a big presence from Microsoft and Nintendo and scores of other big names in gaming."
But the focus of the event is very different to E3, Khoo maintains, adding that the PAX event would be "a place that hardcore gamers, whether they work in the industry, or not, come to be completely immersed in game play, game music and game culture."
"We don't want to be E3," Khoo concluded, leaving the industry to continue its speculation as to which of the more localised events is likely to step into the space left by the demise of E3 of old.
PAX is scheduled to take place from August 25-27 in Bellevue, Washington. The event will feature a selection of industry panels, nightly concerts and a wealth of multiplayer gaming opportunities and competitions. More information on the expo can be found by visiting www.pennyarcadeexpo.com.
