Paul W. S. Anderson's Monster Hunter movie slated for production
Film will feature two protagonists from different worlds battling big beasties in order to survive
Monster Hunter is officially getting its live-action movie adaptation, Capcom has confirmed.
The Japanese publisher announced that the movie has been slated for production, and offered the first details on its plot and who is involved.
The announcement confirmed that Paul W. S. Anderson, best known to gamers for his Resident Evil film series, will serve as both writer and director. Anderson first revealed he had penned a script for a Monster Hunter film back in 2016 and was showing to studios in order to help make it a reality.
The chosen studio is Constantin Film, a German movie production firm that has previously released titles such as Asphalt Gorrillas and Sauerkraut Koma. Meanwhile, Japanese company Toho will distribute the film in Japan.
There currently appears to be no timeframe for when the movie will be shot and released.
The movie will be based on Capcom's best-selling series of fantasy games, centring around "two protagonists who come from different worlds and must cooperate in fighting monsters in order to survive."
The Monster Hunter series is one of Capcom's most prominent franchises, with 50 million units sold worldwide. 10 million of these were sales for this year's Monster Hunter World, which has become the biggest selling title in the publisher's history.
