One million Spore creatures created in first week
Spore Creature Creator lets fans create lifeforms in advance of the full game's September retail release
Electronic Arts studio Maxis has announced that fans have created and shared more than one million creatures using the Spore Creature Creator during the first week of its availability.
"Maxis is excited, humbled and inspired by the explosion of creativity that we've seen with the Spore Creature Creator online," said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer of Spore at Maxis.
"I'm amazed at the creations I see getting uploaded to the Sporepedia - whether it's a realistic looking bird or animal, a 10-eyed alien, or something completely bizarre and unexpected like a creature that looks like a motorcycle, it's clear that people have an innate desire to be creative, and we're thrilled to help them express themselves."
Although Maxis did not specifically mention the issue of "adult-rated" user-created content in their latest press release, Kotaku has reported that EA has begun cracking down on some of the "naughtier" creations that people have been uploading.
The Spore Creature Creator is a stand-alone product featuring 25 per cent of the creature-making parts from the upcoming Spore game. It is available at retail or as a free trial version online.
Creatures made in the Spore Creature Creator can be imported into the full Spore game when it ships worldwide in September for PC, Mac and Nintendo DS.
