Octi raises $7.5 million in seed funding
AR startup's app can discern human movement in videos, outline people and add effects
AR startups continue to bring in an abundance of funding. The latest outfit to tout a cash injection is Octi, a Hollywood-based company working on "a proprietary method for re-creating 3D space using the human body and your smartphone." According to a TechCrunch report, the company has raised $7.5 million in seed funding to pursue that technology.
The company's efforts to date have been showcased in an eponymous iOS app. Users can take video, have the app spot and outline people moving in the frame, and then apply a number of filters to the movement, adding text or "stickers" of other people to the clip.
Video games is just one field in which Octi believes its technology could prove useful, along with fashion, fitness, and entertainment. The list of investors who share Octi's vision includes Shasta Ventures, which has also put money behind developers like Survios and Hobo Labs. Other backers include Bold Capital Partners, Live Nation, and Anheuser-Busch InBev.
