Oberon Media announced its intention to acquire PixelPlay, a creator and distributor of interactive television games.
âThis acquisition advances Oberon Mediaâs triple-play strategy and positions us to reach players across three platforms, thereby increasing game service stickiness and subscriber retention,â said Ofer Leidner, Oberon's co-founder and head of business development. "This increases the appeal of Oberonâs white-label services to all our partners, from cable and satellite operators to telcos and game developers.â
Oberon recently acquired I-play, a casual mobile games company. Its portfolio comprises more than a thousand casual games titles, delivered by 350 wireless carriers and online providers including Microsoft, Comcast, BskyB, Sprint, AT&T, Yahoo Games, Verizon, Electronic Arts, AOL Games, France Telecom, and NHN.
Founded in 2002, PixelPlay delivers interactive games and entertainment to cable and satellite TV operators, with licensed properties such as Scrabble, Yahtzee, Monopoly, and World Poker Tour.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. PixelPlay's CEO, Ron Chaimowitz, will join Oberon Media and lead its interactive TV efforts.
