NPD: Microsoft continues to focus on 2009 growth
Company says Xbox 360 system sales have risen nearly 17 per cent so far this year
Microsoft has released an official statement in response to The NPD Group's US game industry sales results for August of 2009, focusing on its Xbox 360 console's continued year-over-year growth and a successful sales promotion on its Live Arcade digital download service.
According to Microsoft, Xbox 360 console sales from January through August are up nearly 17 per cent over those of the same period in 2008. The company also said that sales of its Xbox 360 Elite model, which had a price reduction in August, surpassed the company's expectations.
Microsoft also revealed that third party sales on the Xbox 360 totaled USD 130.4 million for the month, and that its Summer of Arcade campaign - which included digital releases Shadow Complex and Marvel vs. Capcom 2, among others - saw sales more than double of those during last year's promotion.
