NPD: Hardware revenue drops 38 per cent in June
Though DS remains strong, Xbox 360 only console to show growth year-on-year for the month
The NPD Group has released its official videogame hardware sales figures for the month of June 2009, revealing a 38 per cent decline in hardware revenue compared to the same period in 2008.
Hardware revenue totaled USD 382,620,000 for the month, down from USD 617,250,000 in June of 2008. While the Nintendo DS sold the most units in June at 766,500, only Microsoft's Xbox 360 showed growth, with 240,600 units sold versus approximately 219,000 last year.
NPD analyst Anita Frazier points out that while the Nintendo DS sold less in June 2009 than in the same period last year, sales are up year-to-date, thanks in no small part to the debut of the new DSi unit in May.
