Nordic Game 2010
Entrepreneurship and financing to be first day's focus.
A strong element of this years’ Nordic Games Conference will be the focus and detail it has put into issues of starting and growing games related enterprises. A four-part strand will take up the first day of the conference in Malmö on 28 April.
The skills and know-how in the games industry is beginning to be applied to many new forms and platforms for gaming and also in many walks of life for simulation used for training such as the military, health and corporate training, as well as communications.
“There’s never been a better time to understand and command the skills used in making games”, says Fred Hasson, Chair and producer of the strand.
“Games as entertainment is now diverging into all sorts of avenues, with far more opportunities in development and publishing, and everyone from public service organisations to corporates to the whole entertainment industries are looking at games know how to provide them with new ventures, new business models and new content.”
The opening keynote will be delivered by Kristian Segerstrale, CEO and Founder of Playfish, who instead of focusing on the social networking phenomenon in games will speak about being a successful serial entrepreneur who also recently founded Glu mobile, going straight on to form Playfish, recently acquired by EA.
Segerstrale will then join the 2 subsequent panels sessions on Entrepreneurship and Financing in the games industry. The Entrepeneurs panel includes: Iris Andredottir of Icelandic company Gogogic, Mikael Gummerus of Finnish company Frosmo, Ian Baverstock of Kuju and Tenshiventures UK, and not least David Gardner ex EAUK Bigwig, and recently Atari CEO, who has personally invested in Unity and Playfire amongst others.
The Financiers will be represented by Eggert Claessen of Icelandic fund Frumtak, Siggi Koegl business angel and chief honcho at content financing venture Attaction from Germany/Switzerland, Mats Johanssen of Spintop Ventures, Sweden, and Beni Cohen from Finnish organization Kalculus.
The day will be completed with a pitching session where entrepreneurs pitch their new venture at a panel drawn from those above.
“Anyone interested in investing in a games business or starting one should be there”, concludes Fred Hasson. “There’s some heavyweight firepower among the speakers – you never know they might be interested in investing in you!”
