Nokia's profits rise 148 per cent
Revenues up a third, helped by increases in Nseries sales
Mobile device manufacturer Nokia has seen its profits jump by two and a half times in financial results posted for its second quarter 2007.
It went up from EUR 1.14 billion last year to EUR 2.83 billion this year, with net revenue also up from EUR 9.81 billion to EUR 12.6 billion in the same period.
The figures showed that while the mobile phones arm of the company remained almost flat, rising just one per cent year on year, the multimedia arm of the company, which is primarily responsible for the sales of the Nseries handsets grew by 42 per cent.
The company shipped 9 million Nseries handsets in the quarter, which will be good news for mobile games developers, as the Nseries hosts Nokia's N-Gage flagship gaming platform.
Unsurprisingly most of Nokia's business still lies in Europe, where 27.1 million mobile devices were shipped, and Asia-Pacific, where 25.6 million were shipped.
North America remains a more difficult proposition, as mobile devices sold in the region dropped from 5.2 million last year to 4.1 million this year.
