Nokia reveals first next-gen N-Gage details

Publishers treated to special preview in US

Nokia's next-generation N-Gage has finally been shown off to a select group of developers at a special event in Santa Monica, last week.

According to a report on consumer site pocketgamer technical and business presentations revealed the full specifics of the new N-Gage technology, which Nokia hopes to use in a series of phones to be unveiled later this year.

Companies in attendance included Disney, Sega, Universal, Square Enix, Capcom, Sony Online Entertainment, THQ Wireless, Glu Mobile, Digital Chocolate, EA Mobile, Namco, Tecmo and Vivendi Games, as well as third-party developers Backbone Entertainment and Foundation 9.

The full software development kit was on display, while workshops were held detailing security, architecture and best practices. The event also discussed distribution, marketing and customer services issues.

Nokia is expected to hold a similar event next week in Madrid for European partners, with a view to unveiling the new N-Gage system in March.
