Switch owners in Japan are getting a "cloud version" of Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Ubisoft follows the streaming model adopted by Capcom for Resi 7, selling daily and full-game passes for its upcoming blockbuster

Ubisoft will release a "cloud version" of Assassin's Creed Odyssey for Nintendo Switch in Japan, effectively turning its biggest franchise into a streaming service.

The new version of Odyssey was announced during the recent Japanese-language Nintendo Direct. The "cloud version" of the game will be streamed to the Switch, with players able to access it with either a ¥730 daily pass ($6.50), or a ¥8,400 full game pass ($75) that lasts for two years.

Speaking to GameSpot, a Ubisoft representative confirmed that this version of Assassin's Creed Odyssey will be a "limited release" for the Switch in Japan, with no plans to launch it elsewhere.

This is not the first time that Japanese Switch owners have been given a streaming version of a game that's unavailable elsewhere in the world. In May, a "Cloud Version" of Resident Evil 7 was confirmed for Japan, which allowed users to buy 180 days of playing time for ¥2,000 ($17.80).

In that case, the download required to access Resident Evil 7: Cloud Version was 45MB, putting very little strain on the Switch's limited storage space.
