Following the launch of the Wii in North America on November 19, Nintendo has announced that more than 600,000 Wii units have been sold in just eight days.
Taking into account first-party software and accessory sales, the total figure for Wii sales currently amounts to US$190 million (Euro 144.5 million).
Launch title The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has proved particularly popular, with more than 454,000 units sold - meaning three out of four hardware purchasers picked up a copy.
"Even with sales already in excess of 600,000 units demand continues to exceed supply, as it's clear this is one of the 'gotta-have' products for the holiday season," said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime.
"We've shipped retailers several times the amount of hardware the other company was able to deliver for its launch around the same time - and we still sold out."
The Wii is due to launch in Japan on December 2, with a European release to follow on December 8. Nintendo plans to ship 4 million consoles around the globe by the end of the year.
