NFL ordered to pay $28m to retired players
Ex-athletes win case over royalties from EA titles that use player images and likenesses
The US National Football League Players Association will now be required to pay its retired members USD 28.1 million in a dispute over royalties stemming from videogame licensing agreements.
The NFL lost its legal dispute over deals it reached with Electronic Arts that saw retired players images and likenesses used in certain games, according to Bloomberg.
Judge William Alsup upheld a jury's decision that the players' violated terms of its group licensing agreements. The lawsuit, filed on behalf of 2,062 former NFL players, said they were entitled to a share in royalties from the videogames.
