Nexon's MapleStory turns four

Free-to-play MMO now has 92 million users worldwide

Online games company Nexon has announced that its flagship title MapleStory will reach its fourth anniversary on Monday with the news that the game now has over 92 million users worldwide, including 6 million in North America.

The free-to-play title, launched on May 11, 2005, also boasts over 200,000 player-created videos, according to a statement.

"After four years of service in North America, MapleStory continues to evolve and surprise us all. We are very grateful to our loyal fans and this celebration is for them," said Min Kim, Nexon America's VP of marketing. "MapleStory fans have helped create something special and we're going to reward them with new, exciting content to enjoy throughout the summer and beyond."

A number of game enhancements are planned to coincide with the title's birthday, including new weapons, item upgrades and special events.
