Nexon to localise EVE Online client and services for Japan
Strategic partnership aims for completion this Autumn, ready for Dust 514
EVE Online publisher CCP has signed a strategic partnership with Nexon to fully localise the game's client and services into Japanese by this Autumn.
Whilst the game is already available to Japanese players in other languages, the localisation indicates a commitment from CCP to build local awareness before the launch of free-to-play, persistent tie-in Dust 514 as a PS3 exclusive in 2012.
"Japanese players have always been an essential part of the EVE Online community," said CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson. "Having considered Nexon's excellent reputation as Asia's leading game developer and publisher, they were the obvious choice in who the best possible partner would be to help us make the game more accessible to our growing fan base in Japan."
Japanese access will be via the Tranquility server, which is already home to 350,000 English, German and Russian speakers. Nexxon's online portal will host the site, and payment options will be available via the company's proprietary billing system.
"We are pleased to have this opportunity to be a part of CCP's ongoing plans to provide premium services to their subscribers," said Nexon's Seung-Woo Choi. "Our shared commitment to quality and excellence is the ultimate cornerstone from which to build an even greater gaming experience for Japanese video game enthusiasts."
