Nexon full year revenues up 56%
Overseas sales overtake South Korea for the first time as North American revenues rise 31%
MapleStory developer and publisher Nexon has revealed that full year revenues rose 56 per cent over the last twelve months, hitting a total of 703.6 billion won (£395m/$575m).
For the first time non-Korean revenues accounted for the majority of the company's takings, with subsidiary Nexon America seeing a 31 per cent increase to 57 billion won (£32m/$47m).
North American revenues in the first quarter of 2010 are so far 28 per cent higher than at the same time last year. Profit figures for the company though have not been revealed.
The company attributed the improvements to the global success of Dungeon & Fighter, which now has more than 200 million registered users and has recorded as many as 2.4 million concurrent players. The game is due to be released in North America as Dungeon Fighter Online on June 9.
The company's long-running success MapleStory now has 96 million worldwide registers users, of which 6 million are in North America. KartRider has over 200 million registered users.
"Nexon has perfected the free-to-play model worldwide and has applied it as a winning formula to very outstanding games," said Daniel Kim, CEO of Nexon America.
"Here at home, we have been able to fend off the tough times and continue growing our revenues while adding more and more players to our games. Going forward, Vindictus, Dragon Nest and Dungeon Fighter Online represent the next generation of free to play games that should appeal directly to gamers in North American," he added.
