Newzoo surveys
Reports on gamers' behaviour to cover twelve countries, including Spain, Brazil, Mexico and Russia.
Amsterdam, 2 February 2011 – In March 2011, Newzoo will launch a series of consumer surveys on games and gaming simultaneously in twelve countries across the globe – the biggest international survey on games and gamers to date.
For the first time Newzoo, already known for delivering key insights on gamers’ behavior in Western Markets (US, UK, Germany, France, Netherlands and Belgium), will add New and Emerging Markets (Spain, Brazil, Mexico, Russia) to its portfolio of National Gamers Surveys. These markets have traditionally been viewed as hard to monetize through retail channels, but online and mobile business models are changing this - a change witnessed daily by GlobalCollect, world’s premier payment service provider of local e-payment solutions and launch sponsor of the US and Emerging Markets surveys. Asian markets (China, Korea) will be surveyed in May.
This expansion into new markets is designed to enable game companies and investors to make well informed decisions on emerging markets, and to provide a badly-needed global perspective on gaming that includes all game platforms, genres and business models. Bob Voermans, Senior Business Development Manager EMEA at GlobalCollect: “We see it as our responsibility to make sure our clients make well-informed choices and have therefore chosen to back the new series of surveys performed by Newzoo. Having been payment consultants for the games industry for over 15 years, we know that research is vital to make sure gaming companies implement the right strategy to grow their online business.”
The Total Picture
Global consumer data on the games market has been mainly focused on the retail business, that can be tracked directly. Now however, almost half of consumer spending on games has shifted to the online space – and random estimates for all “online games” no longer suffice, according to Peter Warman, Managing Director of Newzoo. “The data available on digital distribution as well as social, mobile, casual and MMO games is fragmented,” he says. “Newzoo is dedicated to filling this knowledge gap in our fast-moving industry – that’s why we’ve extended our portfolio of surveys. We’re also involving some innovative tracking methods in order to uncover the data that fills the needs of the international games industry and its investors.”
Access to The Data
Newzoo offers the data on a subscription basis, with prices per country starting at €3,000 and and attractive discount for multi-country purchases. The subscription includes a full year access to the data via an interactive online tool, facilitating in-depth analysis as well as efficient graph building, sharing and exporting functionalities. Companies that sign up now get access to the data first and enjoy additional benefits. Already PopCap, RealGames Latin America and Europe (Zylom), RTL Group and EA have joined up.
