New UK indie developer and publisher opens its doors
Game Faction, a new British independent videogames developer and online publisher, has announced its entrance into the market, founded by two industry professionals with over 17 years experience.
British games industry veterans Lee Hickey and Malcolm Reed have co-founded a new independent videogames development and online publishing company under the name of Game Faction.
Hickey and Reed have an established background in games development, having previously worked on titles including Tycoon City: New York for Atari and Vega$: Make it Big, Monopoly Tycoon and the Actua Soccer series for Gremlin Interactive, amongst many more.
Game Faction's ambitions centre on the development and publishing of innovative games through emerging digital channels, focusing on strategic partnerships and collaboration to develop a complete value chain.
The company is seeking new ways to bring independent games to market, its strategy revolving around financing independent development in a manner which allows the developer to retain creative control, intellectual property and company equity. Game Faction intends to design games which take advantage of an online distribution model, and is looking at different outsourcing models for asset creation, efficiently targeting multiple platforms and effective marketing for independent products.
Game Faction is keen to hear from "any games industry stakeholder with an interest in tackling these issues, specifically other independent games developers with an interest in collaborating on any stage of the value chain."
The debut title from Game Faction, Morphid Brood, is described as "a 3Dreal time strategy/puzzle game for PC" and is scheduled for a release in the second quarter of 2006. More information on the fledgling firm, it's history, ambitions and plans for collaboration and industry partnerships can be found by visiting the newly launched company website.
