New mobile publisher announces GPS game
Your World Games to bring The Shroud to mobiles.
Newly-formed mobile games publisher Your World Games has announced plans to release a new GPS-enabled role-playing game titled The Shroud.
According to YWG, The Shroud will deliver "the depth of a traditional console game on a mobile phone" and "break new ground in GPS-enabled gameplay."
Players will be tasked with protecting a farming community from mysterious forces, completing side quests and solving puzzles along the way. Although the game is designed to be played in short bursts, YWG says there is enough content to keep players entertained for months on end.
The Shroud's GPS functionality will give players the chance to enter contests by visiting real-world locations, where they can compete for special items and high scores. Players will be able to check their ranking, buy and trade items and share hints and tips via an Internet leader board.
"The mobile platform should not limit a game design. Our goal is to set a new standard for depth in gameplay in the space," said Your World Games VP Robert Sprogis.
"We want to change the way people think about mobile games. They don't have to be poor graphics and quick gameplay sessions. Instead we want to offer compelling stories, large worlds to explore, and take advantage of the mobility of the platform."
The Shroud is due for a release across North America in early 2006.
