New EVE Online Quarterly Economic Newsletter Released
The realistic economy of the world's most financially complicated MMOG receives expert attention.
Reykjavik, Iceland and Atlanta, GA - February 20, 2008 - EVE Online fans live in an epic struggle to out-produce, out-purchase and out-procure their bitterest rivals in a mind-staggeringly massive universe. The sheer vastness of the in-game economy that fuels these wars leaves players thirsty for whatever information can lead them to smarter in-game business decisions, often making or breaking corporations.
CCP, hoping to help EVE players operate on a more economically savvy level, has tasked staff economist Dr. Eyjólfur Guðmundsson to prepare quarterly newsletters on the in-game economy. The latest version of this report is now available at
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/pdf/QEN_Q4-2007.pdf.
Following the well-received first edition of the quarterly newsletter that was released in November 2007, the current QEN explores the distribution of pilots, price levels, and how to measure economic activity in EVE. The Q4 edition naturally focuses on the economic impact of the large influx of players brought by the highly-successful Trinity expansion. A complete vision of the changes is given with in-depth studies of the mineral price index, primary producer price index, secondary producer price index, and the consumer price index. Dr. Eyjo and his team define the Gross User Product, which mirrors real-world examples and measurements for national economies and gives an overall impression of the state of the economy in EVE.
Those players who delve into the newsletter enjoy access to an immersive understanding of the EVE Online economy that would be impossible to gather on their own.
"As the population grows, the need for information increases as well. The economic system of EVE is becoming so vast and complex that it is possible for the virtual world of EVE and the real world to learn from each other." - Dr. Eyjólfur Guðmundsson
