Netherlands' gaming industry hits EUR 1 billion
NLGD expects the figure to continue to rise to EUR 1.2 billion this year
The NLGD foundation, the Dutch games industry advocates, has announced that the Netherlands' gaming industry has grown to be worth nearly EUR 1 billion (USD 1.5 billion / GBP 787 million).
Last year the Dutch games industry exceeded the revenue of its film industry for the first time, with the sector growing 50 per cent faster than any other industry in the region.
"The remarkable success of the Dutch game industry can be attributed to the significant interest in game related research, education and science in the Netherlands," said Seth van der Meer, chairman of NLGD.
Over the coming year van der Meer expects the Dutch gaming industry to grow to EUR 1.2 billion (USD 1.8 billion / GBP 944 million), and the number of jobs to increase from 1,500 to 1,800.
