NCsoft to axe Dungeon Runners by year end

Free-to-play online RPG "just isn't profitable", says producer

NCsoft is set to pull the plug on its free-to-play online RPG Dungeon Runners this New Year's Eve.

The game isn't profitable, and its three-man development team doesn't have the financial support to implement necessary changes, said NCsoft.

"The game just isn't profitable. And, the first rule of business is to be profitable," offered Stephen Nichols, producer and lead programmer.

"We've got some ideas that could work. But, they're expensive to implement and pretty risky. Those two facts, coupled with the recent loss of some key developers, make achieving the success we seek pretty much out of the question."

NCsoft will compensate players with digital copies of City of Heroes Architect Edition and Guild Wars Prophecies.

The publisher recently canned Richard Garriott's Tabula Rasa due to poor performance.
