NCsoft sales double following global Aion launch
Korean company sees revenues surge following game's US and European release
NCsoft has seen a surge in profits in the third quarter of 2009, reporting a year-on-year increase of 836 per cent following the global release of Aion: The Tower of Eternity.
Revenue for the company also more than doubled compared to the same period last year.
The company recorded a profit of KRW 46.9 billion (USD 40.6 million) for the third quarter - an increase of 39 per cent on the second quarter of the year - and revenues totalling KRW 166.3 billion (USD 144 million), which was an increase of 21 per cent.
Revenue was already up in the first half of the year for the company following the release of Aion across Korea. The game was responsible for more than half of NCsoft's overall sales in the latest quarter, totalling 970,000 units in just under a week.
NCsoft said its "proportion of overseas sales surged due to Aion's sales in Japan, Taiwan, US and Europe."
Aion topped the PC chart upon its release in the US in October. NCsoft was also forced to introduce new servers days after the game came out in Europe as players flooded existing ones.
