Music game instruments to be cross-compatible on PS3
Sony works with Harmonix, Neversoft and Konami to smooth compatibility issues
Sony has been working with Konami, Harmonix and Neversoft to ensure that peripherals are cross-compatible across a number of music games on the PlayStation 3.
Guitar and drum peripherals will all have a degree of compatibility between Neversoft's forthcoming Guitar Hero: On Tour, Harmonix's Rock Band 2 and Konami's Rock Revolution, and in addition, Sony's own SingStar microphones will work with Neversoft and Harmonix software.
The lack of cross-compatibility on expensive music games has drawn complaints from consumers, and Konami's own associate producer on Rock Revolution has called for a level of compatibility between software.
"For the past several months, we have been working closely with Neversoft and Activision, Harmonix and Konami to ensure that PlayStation 3 guitars and drum sets will all feature a basic level of gameplay compatibility," detailed Michael Shorrock, director of publisher relations at SCEA.
"Of course each of these great games have their own specific cool features that may not be compatible with the other controllers, but this is our first big step in bringing a level of compatibility to music games that is sure to benefit PlayStation 3 consumers."
Shorrock added that users can also expect announcements regarding the compatibility of current Guitar Hero and Rock Band titles on the market shortly.
