MTV nominates Best Soundtrack Awards for videogames

MTV has released its nominees for Best Videogame Soundtrack for its forthcoming annual Video Music Awards, with a roster of five licensed music driven titles taking the front row over games with original scores.

Konami's Dance Dance Revolution Extreme, Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 2005 and Def Jam: Fight for New York, Rockstar Games' Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition, and Activision's Tony Hawk's Underground 2 are the registered contenders for the gong. Each title boasts a mainstream soundtrack by popular licensed artists, including the likes of Busta Rhymes, Junior Senior, Green Day and Marilyn Manson.

2004 saw the full debut of the videogame soundtrack category, where Tony Hawk's Underground scooped the prize from rival nominees Madden NFL 2004, SSX 3, True Crime: Streets of LA and Need for Speed Underground.

The MTV Video Music Awards, which is being hosted by music mogul and artist P Diddy, will be recorded on August 28th, with nominations for the videogame category running to a public online vote on the official website.
