Players have purchased and downloaded more than 2.5 million songs for MTV's Rock Band since the game's release in November 2007.

"Our goal with Rock Band was to create an entirely new way for people to interact with the music they love," stated Van Toffler, president, MTVN Music Group/Logo/Films.

"The incredible response to the downloadable content we've released to date motivates us even more to establish this platform as a way for people to discover new, up and coming artists through the game - in addition to delivering great game play experiences set to the music of mega-artists."

The top-selling download is currently a Metallica pack featuring three tracks from the band - "Ride The Lightning,â âBlackenedâ and âAnd Justice For Allâ.

Other top-selling three-song packs include music from The Police, Queens of the Stone Age, David Bowie and a collection of Black Sabbath covers.

Top-performing singles are Foreigner's "Juke Box Hero," a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son," Weezerâs "Buddy Holly" and a cover of The Knack's "My Sharona."

According to the developers, Rock Band owners can expect more music for download every week through 2008 with a variety of song packs, albums and individual tracks. Suggested retail pricing for the downloaded content will vary from USD 0.99 to 2.99 per track (80 to 240 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360), with the majority selling for USD 1.99 (160 Microsoft Points).
