Monster Hunter: World passes 8m sold in strong Q1 for Capcom

Game revenue increased 79 per cent year-on-year on the strength of Monster Hunter and Street Fighter

Monster Hunter: World eclipsed 8 million sales in Capcom's first fiscal quarter, driving the Japanese publisher to huge gains in both revenue and profit.

In the three-month period ended June 30, 2018, Capcom earned ¥17.2 billion in revenue, a 46 per cent increase over the prior year. Net profit rose 649 per cent year-on-year, from ¥521 million in Q1 2017 to ¥3.9 billion in Q2 2018.

The Digital Contents business was the main source of revenue, contributing ¥13.8 billion - up 79 per cent year-on-year. The division's operating income increased 242 per cent to ¥5.7 billion.

The strongest single performer was Monster Hunter: World, which had reached 8.3 million units sold by the end of the quarter. However, the game had shipped 7.5 million units in early March, so that new total doesn't signify rapid growth.

Capcom also noted the "solid" performance of Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, which outperformed its expectations.
