Monster Hunter: World hits 6 million shipped
Co-op action game reaches milestone faster than any title in Capcom history, already publisher's fourth best-seller of all-time
It's been two weeks since Monster Hunter: World launched worldwide, and the cooperative online action game is already setting records for Capcom. The company today announced Monster Hunter: World has already made it to 6 million copies shipped, reaching that mark faster than any previous Capcom game.
Monster Hunter: World has already shipped more copies (including digital sales) than any other installment, surpassing the series' previous highpoint, 2010's Monster Hunter Freedom 3 for the PSP. It's also well on its way to being Capcom's best-selling title of all time. Currently only three Capcom games have sold more than 6 million copies: Resident Evil 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360 (7.3 million units), Resident Evil 6 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 (7.1 million units), and Street Fighter II on the Super Nintendo (6.3 million units).
Monster Hunter: World has also vaulted the franchise clear of Street Fighter as Capcom's second best-selling series of all-time. Monster Hunter games have cumulatively sold more than 46 million copies, while Street Fighter has sold 40 million across twice as many releases. Only Resident Evil has provided more sales for Capcom, with the survival horror franchise sitting at 82 million copies sold.
