Monster Hunter: World drives Capcom to strong six-month results

Hit title has eclipsed 10m shipments, helped Capcom to double profits

Capcom's games division helped the company to double its profits in the first half of the fiscal year, largely down to the continuing strong performance of Monster Hunter: World.

The Japanese publisher confirmed that Monster Hunter: World passed ten million shipments in the second fiscal quarter - the same period that saw the release of the game's PC version. This is a record high for any single title in Capcom's history.

As a result, the Digital Contents division saw a 70% year-on-year increase in H1 revenue, to ¥34.2 billion ($305 million). Operating profit was up 207% over the previous year to ¥11.8 billion ($105 million).

Looking ahead, Capcom pointed to the launches of the Resident Evil 2 remake and Devil May Cry 5 as possible hits before the fiscal year ends in March 2019.

Overall, Capcom's revenue for the first half of the fiscal year was up 29% over the prior year, to ¥43.3 billion ($387 million). Net profit rose 97% to ¥6.8 billion ($61 million), and that's despite the losses recorded as a result of the closure of Capcom Vancouver.
