Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate hits 2 million sales in Japan
But all three new releases for next gen systems sold fewer than 7,000 units
Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has sold 2 million units in Japan since its launch four weeks ago.
Capcom's updated 3DS title sold a further 101,000 units in Japan last week, pushing its lifetime sales 50,000 units past the 2 million milestone. With the game's European and North American launches still to come, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be a major hit for Capcom, and a sorely needed one at that.
There were seven new releases in Japan last week, but none of them sold the 16,000+ units necessary to trouble the top five. The most successful new game was the PlayStation 3 version of 2K's Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which entered the chart in seventh place, closely followed by D3's Onechanbara Z2: Chaos.
Three new generation console games were released - Metro Redux and The Evil Within on PlayStation 4, and Sunset Overdrive on Xbox One - but none made it into the top ten. Or, to put it another way, none sold more than 7,000 units.
The top ten is below, accompanied by lifetime sales.

The hardware chart presented a familiar scene: the 3DS dominant, the PlayStation 4 struggling, and the Xbox One far from the pace.
