Modern Warfare 3 details leak ahead of official reveal

Next Call of Duty built by Infinity Ward, Raven and Sledgehammer

Major plot details and artwork for Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 have been leaked online, spoiling the official reveal expected within days.

Kotaku has gone live with story details, art and audio files of the next game in the blockbuster series, revealing that three different Activision studios - Infinity Ward, Raven Software and the newly formed Sledgehammer Games - are working on the game.

The site also seems to verify earlier reports that Modern Warfare 3 will release November 8.

The leak will not please publisher Activision, which has traditionally kept details of its Call of Duty games under strict embargo, managing media with minimal assets before release.

While many publishers provide a constant stream of art, interviews and playable game code at least 24 months before a game's official release, Activision has taken a stricter stance, only offering trailers and glimpses of the games around six months before they hits shelves.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 follows the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops, which sold 7 million units in its first 24 hours on sale and is still a regular in top five sales charts in the US and Europe.
