Mobile market worth US $47 billion by 2011

Juniper research reveals latest entertainment forecasts

Juniper research claims that the market for mobile entertainment will be worth US$ 77 billion by 2011.

Incorporating all forms of mobile entertainment including mobile games, TV and music, as well as gambling and adult content, Juniper sees the market expanding to US $47 billion in 2009, and US$ 77 billion just two years later.

The research outfit even believes that mobile gaming and TV will out-perform mobile music over the coming years.

"By 2011 Juniper Research believes that the revenues from mobile games and mobile TV will have overtaken those generated by mobile music despite strong growth in revenues from full track music," said the firm.

Between 2006 and 2011, Juniper expects Europe to contribute 35 per cent of global mobile entertainment revenues, and Asia Pacific 37 per cent.

"There are tremendous revenue opportunities for all value chain participants in mobile entertainment over the next few years," said Bruce Gibson, senior consultant at Juniper Research.

"Busy lifestyles in both developed and developing markets means that consumers will have to grab entertainment and relaxation as and when they can. Growing disposable incomes, next-generation mobile technology and the metamorphosis of the mobile handset into a multifunction communications and entertainment device will enable them to achieve this in a way hitherto thought impossible," he added.
