Microsoft to slash $50 off Xbox 360 - report

20GB Premium model to get reduction ahead of E3

Microsoft is slashing USD 50 off the price of the Premium, or Pro, Xbox 360 model.

That's according to a report by the Hollywood Reporter, which cites "a major retailer" as its source.

The price cut was first rumoured last week, with leading analyst Michael Pachter backing the idea and telling GamesIndustry.biz that such a move would see Microsoft take an advantage over rival Sony by becoming the price leader in the console wars.

The Premium model will now retail in North America for USD 299, and comes with a 20GB hard drive and wireless controller.

GamesIndustry.biz has contacted Microsoft for comment.
