Microsoft to slash 360 price in Asia - report
Elite price to be reduced by over a quarter in the region following European price drop
While a price drop for the Xbox 360 Elite has already been applied across Europe, Microsoft is yet to confirm it will do the same for Japan and other Asia-Pacific regions. But reports suggest the company will announce such a move at a press conference to be held in Japan tomorrow.
According to Network World, the press conference was confirmed by Julie Leong of Microsoft Hong Kong. During it, Microsoft is expected to announce a price reduction of 28 per cent to the 120GB 360 model, which will result in a retail price equating to around USD 305 in Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan.
As in Europe, Microsoft will remove the HDMI cable previously included with the bundle.
The official date for the price drop is unconfirmed for Japan, but is expected on September 10 for other parts of Asia-Pacific. Microsoft puts the difference in timing for the reduction down to a delay getting the new Elites without the HDMI cable to stores.
Sales figures released earlier today show the 360 price drop in the UK resulted in a 43 per cent rise in sales over the bank holiday weekend.
Sony's PlayStation 3 price drop - which saw its 120GB console go down to USD 299.99 - took effect last week.
