Microsoft resets expectations ahead of Xbox Showcase

"No business, devices or similar news, just games," says Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg

In May, Xbox GM of games marketing Aaron Greenberg said the company "set some wrong expectations" with its last Xbox Series X gameplay reveal event, and he seems determined not to make the same mistake heading into next week's Xbox Games Showcase.

"I know everyone is excited for Xbox Games Showcase next Thursday," Greenberg posted to Twitter this morning. "Seen some wild expectations so if helpful this show has one focus, games. No business, devices or similar news, just games. A whole show about hour long focused on games. Hope you enjoy it!"

That would seem to rule out Microsoft using the showcase to announce some key facts about the Xbox Series X that remain unknown, like the price and release date. However, there have also been reports that Microsoft is planning to announce an Xbox Series S, a less expensive version of the next-gen hardware.

The Xbox Games Showcase is set for July 23 at 9 a.m. Pacific.

Update: When asked for clarification by GamesIndustry.biz about whether his comments applied to price and release date information, Greenberg replied, "It means the whole show is just games. So anything else is not in this show."
