Microsoft introduces Bitcoin support
US customers can now make digital purchases in digital currency
Xbox customers can now use Bitcoin to make payments in stores operated by Microsoft.
There is no direct payment function for Bitcoin at present, so users will have to add funds to a digital wallet via their Microsoft accounts, at fixed values between $10 and $100.
This opens up a variety of Microsoft stores to Bitcoin purchases: Xbox Games, Xbox Music, Xbox Video, Windows Phone and Windows. However, at present, Bitcoin support is only available in the US.
This year has seen a number of game companies open up to Bitcoin as a valid currency. Zynga started experimenting with it as early as January, with Big Fish following in March, and Green Man Gaming introducing it at the start of this month.
