Microsoft Game Room update due today

Virtual arcade to get first new batch of classic coin-op and console games

Xbox Live virtual arcade Game Room is to receive its first update today, following layoffs at Australian developer Krome Studios.

Game Room was launched at the end of March with a small selection of coin-op and early console games, but has seen no updates since.

Microsoft originally announced the service as having a goal of 1000 titles in its first three years and a weekly schedule of new additions.

The new titles due for release today remain fairly obscure, particularly to a non-US audience. They include Atari 2600 titles Super Breakout, Pitfall!, Realsports Volleyball and Basketball; Intellivision title Night Stalker; and Konami coin-op Rack 'Em Up.

With many publishers still choosing to release coin-op ports, such as the recent After Burner and Final Fight, as full Xbox Live Arcade releases it is unclear if and when Game Room will include newer and better known titles.

The developer of Game Room, Australian company Krome Studios, was recently forced to cut between 30 and 50 staff due to economic pressures.
