Megaton.co.uk
New games site from Eurogamer aimed at 8-to-12-year-olds, set to launch in a month's time.
For Immediate Release
Brighton, England, 25th February 2010. Eurogamer, Europe's leading independent games media specialist, is pleased to reveal that it has begun working on Megaton.co.uk, a new videogame website aimed at children aged 8-12.
The website is being licensed from and produced in conjunction with SkyJack Publishing, and will complement Eurogamer's existing core gamer and trade focuses.
Megaton magazine goes on sale today, coinciding with the website's beta launch. Megaton.co.uk will officially 'go live' on 25th March, utilising much of the magazine's content but also creating additional online editorial and advertising solutions.
"With over 4.9 million young gamers online every day the potential audience for Megaton.co.uk is massive, particularly given that over three million of them are online for over three hours every day," said Megaton.co.uk publisher Cat Channon. "They are surprising stats when you look at all the other factors - eating, sleeping, school, playing sports, arguing with the folks, TV - which take up such large chunks of your average kid's day. The audience exists and its appetite for online content is insatiable. We?re excited about addressing it."
Eurogamer Network Managing Director Rupert Loman added: "This is a great launch for us and the many videogame publishers for whom a dedicated children's site is long overdue. We have talked about a junior project for a while, but we were adamant we should only enter this space when we fully understood how children use the internet and exactly what they want from a videogames website. Working alongside SkyJack and their expertise in the kids space represents a great opportunity for all involved."
Megaton magazine and Megaton.co.uk will provide a location where kids can engage and play with their favorite gaming brands and characters outside of the straight gameplay experience. Both the magazine and website plan to make the most of the great creative resources available to children's titles and translate those into entertaining content.
Full details of the site setup and content are to be revealed at launch, but its tone will follow that of SkyJack?s Megaton magazine, created by Matt Yeo and Wayne Lamport, the minds behind top-selling kids titles, TOXIC magazine and The Official Ben 10 Magazine. Their years of experience and ability to create content for younger readers makes them the perfect people to produce the first children's magazine utterly dedicated to gaming.
