Meffys Awards
Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 and Metal Gear Solid Mobile in the running.
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH announced today that two of its mobile games, Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 and Metal Gear Solid Mobile, have been nominated as finalists for the 2008 Meffys Awards. The Meffys, which honor the most influential mobile entertainment players, attracted applicants from 21 countries across four continents and have narrowed the entries to five finalists in each category. Winners will be announced at the Meffys gala dinner May 8, 2008 in Cannes.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 has been nominated for its unique capabilities allowing players to defeat the opposition with a flowing short pass game, long up-field passes with pin-point accuracy or stunning attacking dribbles towards the opponent’s goal utilizing a unique one button control system perfected for mobile gaming. Pro Evolution Soccer is endorsed by some of the world’s top players including Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Owen, and includes over 100 officially licensed teams. Featuring superb graphics and animation, accurate ball physics and incredible game play, Pro Evolution Soccer is the most playable and realistic soccer experience ever seen on mobile.
Metal Gear Solid Mobile has been selected as a finalist due to its never-before-seen dramatic 3D art displays and camera work that greatly surpass the current standard of mobile games. In the game, players will face the same extreme tension of solitary infiltration that fans of the classic tactical espionage action game have come to expect from the Metal Gear Solid console game series. The game also takes advantage of the phone’s camera functionality, using the camera to sample colors from the real world for an in-game camouflage system. It is also possible to shift the viewpoint from first to third person in the game to control a variety of weapons.
“Konami is honored to have two of its top franchise titles recognized so highly by the Meffys Awards,” said Florian Stronk, Head of Mobile Business Departement of Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “Both of these games demonstrate our unique approach to mobile gaming and our dedication to bringing the best mobile entertainment content that the industry has to offer.”
Konami plans to continue to develop groundbreaking mobile games throughout 2008, working towards additional award wins in 2009.
