ME Awards 2008

Nokia, Sony BMG, O2 and Apple among last night's winners.

Friday 26th September; 00.01am/...London. Nokia, Sony BMG, O2 and Apple were among the winners at last night’s third annual ME Awards.

The ceremony, which rewards creativity, innovation and those who work in the mobile sector, attracted nearly 400 delegates from over 120 companies in media, technology and entertainment around the world.

The wide range of categories covered all aspects of the mobile entertainment space, including software, hardware and B2B applications. Taptu won best mobile search provider, Apple picked up the award for best handset company, EA Mobile for best games publisher and Sony BMG for best music label. O2 UK and Ideaworks 3D scooped the awards for the best operator and best games developer categories respectively.

The ME Awards also recognised Anssi Vanjoki, executive vice president, markets, at Nokia with a special award for outstanding contribution to the mobile entertainment content industry.

“The mobile content market has had another blistering year, turbo-charged by the collective drive of Nokia, Apple, Google and others to take mobile rich media into the mainstream,” said Tim Green, executive editor of Mobile Entertainment magazine. “We’re delighted that nearly 400 execs came together last night to help us celebrate the industry’s amazing progress. Congratulations to all the winners.”
