MapleStory

Home to 136,000 concurrent players.

Yesterday, more than 136,000 people played Nexon America’s MapleStory at the same time, nearly doubling its previous concurrency record in North America, set in July 2009. The record number of players comes on the heels of Big Bang, a content update that implemented a complete game overhaul.

MapleStory is a 2-D, side-scrolling, massively multiplayer online role-playing game with real time gameplay that combines action and traditional RPG elements. Currently, players can enjoy 15 unique character classes, hundreds of quests, and nearly endless character customization options, all for free.

Launched in North America in 2005, MapleStory has more than 7 million registered users and more than 95 million registered users worldwide.

“This milestone represents a new high point for MapleStory and is a testament to the growing popularity of the game into its fifth year,” said Daniel Kim, CEO of Nexon America. “Thanks to the highly engaging content, like the recently released Big Bang update, MapleStory continues to provide hours of enjoyment to millions of players. We are looking forward to seeing our players continue to grow with the game.”

Earlier this month, MapleStory introduced the first and second phases of the three-part epic Big Bang update. Big Bang has introduced a visually richer Maple World where players can experience a completely remastered adventure. Additionally, two new characters, the Battle Mage and Wild Hunter, along with a new town, Edelstein, have been introduced.

MapleStory is set to release the third phase of the Big Bang update early 2011, introducing a new character class.
