Manhunt 2 banned in Ireland
Following the BBFC's ban for the UK, and the ESRB's Adults Only rating for the US, Manhunt 2 has been similarly banned from sale in Ireland.
Following the BBFC's decision to prevent Manhunt 2 from going on sale in the UK, the controversial Rockstar title has also been banned in Ireland.
The Irish Film Censor's Offices issued an order on June 18 under the Video Recordings Act of 1989 Section 7 (1)(b) referring to acts of gross violence or cruelty.
"IFCO recognises that in certain films, DVDs and video games, strong graphic violence may be a justifiable element within the overall context of the work," the organisation said in a statement.
"However, in the case of Manhunt 2, IFCO believes that there is no such context, and the level of gross, unrelenting and gratuitous violence is unacceptable."
Rockstar spokesperson Rodney Walker said the company is currently evaluating the ban. He told the Associated Press, "We're going to look at this on a country-by-country basis, but this game is really important to us."
