Majesco to sell PC titles through Steam system
US publisher Majesco says use of Valve's popular digital distribution model will extend the reach of brands amongst enthusiast gamers.
Majesco has joined a growing number of publishers choosing to retail their software directly to consumers through Valve's content delivery system Steam.
Action titles BloodRayne 1 and 2 and Advent Rising have gone on sale this week, with critically acclaimed platform adventure Psychonauts, developed by industry veteran Tim Schafer and his team at DoubleFine Productions, due to go on sale in October.
Majesco business development director Daniel Hofbauer said Steam was "unrivalled" as the "leading digital download platform" among enthusiasts.
"We believe there is a great opportunity to extend the reach of our brands via digital distribution and are pleased to offer our titles to Steam's audience," he said.
BloodRayne 1 is on sale for US$ 9.99, while BloodRayne 2 and Advent Rising cost US$ 19.99. 10 percent discounts are being offered during the first two weeks on sale.
Earlier this week, Majesco announced third quarter net revenues of US$ 12.6 million, up from US$ 4.6 million in the same period in 2005, although overall net revenues for the current financial year have descended from US$ 55.1 million to US$ 48.3 million.
The company has repositioned itself in light of recent results to focus on smaller titles, and recently praised the development costs of Nintendo's Wii platform, claiming it had "excellent potential to capture the mass market gamer while remaining within [Majesco's] more conservative cost structure".
