Magic: The Gathering – Duels of the Planeswalkers

Expansion pack notches Stainless their fourth XBLA number one.

21st May 2010 - Stainless has topped the Xbox LIVE Arcade Marketplace Charts again with the release last week of the latest Expansion Pack for Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers, providing the company with its fourth XBLA Number 1.

A hit on its initial release in June 2009, the title hit the top spot again with the first Expansion in October 2009. Now the recent release of Expansion Pack 2 makes a hat-trick of successes for Stainless and its publishing partner Wizards of the Coast.

“It’s a real tribute to the amazing global appeal of Magic: The Gathering. It’s a game that’s continually evolving and we took the decision not simply to add new content with these expansions – but evolve it too, by adding new features and continually improving the product. It looks like that strategy is paying off,” said Patrick Buckland, Stainless’s CEO.

It is thought that Duels of the Planeswalkers is the first XBLA title to hit the top spot on three separate occasions over such a timescale.

“We also need to say thanks to the many hundreds of thousands of Magic: The Gathering fans who have bought the game and are continuing to support it as it evolves,” said Matt Edmunds, Stainless’s COO. “Ultimately any success we have is down to them – and the hard work of both the team here at Stainless and our friends at Wizards of the Coast.”
