Magic Leap One Creator Edition now available for $2,295

The hyped mixed reality startup shows its hand at last

The first hardware from the secretive mixed reality startup Magic Leap is now available, with a price-tag of $2,295.

Magic Leap One Creator Edition ships with the Lightwear headset, Lightpack computing pack, Control handheld input device, a Fit Kit to ensure a perfectly calibrated fit, chargers, and a Quick Start Guide to get you up and running.

"Magic Leap One Creator Edition is a spatial computing system that brings digital content to life here in the real world with us," the company said in a blog post today. "Its unique design and technology lets in natural light waves together with softly layered synthetic lightfields, enabling creators to build unbelievably believable interactive experiences and create worlds within our world. And this is just the beginning."

The device will also ship with a host of applications, including a web browser designed for 3D and spatial online experiences, a video player that allows users to place "multiple displays of any size in their physical space", and a social application that features unique avatars.

It will also have a bespoke operating system called LuminOS - "one that gets the most out of our spatial computing platform by working in tandem with the brain" - and a developer toolkit, called "Magic Kit", that contains sample code, tech write-ups and design diaries.

The capability of these tools and applications will be demonstrated through a handful of preview experiences, all developed in-house at Magic Leap: Tónandi, an interactive audio-visual collaboration between the band Sigur Rós and Magic Leap Studios, and Create, a mixed reality sandbox.

The video game collaboration between Magic Leap and Weta Workshop, Dr. Grordbort's Invaders, is listed as "coming soon."

To date, Magic Leap has raised somewhere around $2.6 billion in funding.
