Lost Planet 2 number one in Japan

Capcom's co-op shooter fights off latest iteration of Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer

The PlayStation 3 version of Capcom's Lost Planet 2 was the best-selling game in Japan last week, although the new title debuted at number one with a relatively low 85,000 unit sales.

Although the sequel has received generally poor reviews in the West, and enjoyed only a brief sojourn in most European top 10s, it has performed better in its country of origin. The Xbox 360 version entered the charts at number five, with its 34,000 unit sales making for a grand total of 119,000.

The other major release of the week is the latest version of Winning Eleven, Konami's long-running football franchise which is marketed in the West as Pro Evolution Soccer. The "Blue Samurai Challenge" is a minor variation of the existing game centring on the Japanese national team.

The PS3 version was the top seller at number three with 57,000 unit sales, followed by the PSP at number six on 21,000 and the PlayStation 2 at number nine on 14,000. The significantly different Wii version debuted at number 15.

Although sales figures outside the top 10 are not recorded total sales of the title were in excess of 92,000 units for the week.

The other major new entry in the top 10 was the latest tie-in to anime Fullmetal Alchemist. Konami's new PSP title sold 21,000 units and entered the charts at number seven.
